It's Been One Of Those Nights | melody08's Blog

This is gonna be a long one. First off, I had Valerie (assistant manager) pegged wrong. She's cool, but we'll get to that later. Most of my work day went off without a hitch. Scheduled until 6. A friend of mine at work, Ginny, and I had decided we'd see the new X-Men movie after work. At 5, we started shutting down our side of the room. (There's concession stands on either side of the lobby.) By 5:30 we had almost everything done, no food out, no lights on, no one was behind the counter. It was pretty obvious we were closed down. Sometimes when we're cleaning up people think we're opened and we have to tell them to go across the lobby. So I was heading through the lobby, on my way to the broom closet, to put away a broom, and some guy stopped me and asked for change. He caught me really off guard, almost like he was just asking for extra change to buy something, rather than "Can I get some quarters for this dollar?" No to mention, he was standing really awkwardly close, like right in my face. So I told him I had no money, I had no register, my side was closed. I pointed and everything, to make sure he understood. Seemed he did, so I walked away, glad to be not so close to a stranger. I found Keeley (best friend at work) and told her how weird it was and we kinda laughed about it. It wasn't that big a deal, just awkward. So we finish closing our side, and me and Ginny go to our theatre. It was packed, and there was only one pair of seats together left, and they were next to the awkward guy. Just my luck. I knew he was gonna try and talk to me and crap, and I didn't wanna be bothered. I thought he was hitting on me. Asking me about movie previews, offering me candy, ect. It was slightly annoying, but it was still previews so I wasn't gonna complain. He was also getting out his phone every couple of minutes, which was annoying, but again, we were still in previews. AND, his arm was way over the arm rest, but I didn't care too much cause I'm small and I just sat closer to Ginny, who happened to be having the same issure with the person on her other side. Then the movie started, and the guys phone actually started making noise and he was talking into it, like a walkie talkie. I sighed at him, and then he just goes off. He was yelling and swearing at me. "You got a fucking attitude problem. Shit that, fuck this. Your parents are racist." Allll that good stuff. Apparently it was cause he was black that I sighed at him. Had nothing to do with that fact he was a complete tosser. So when he started talkking about my mom (saying my parents were racist) I had to leave. I thought I would come back in a few minutes and find another seat, so Ginny stayed and waited. I walked around the lobby and found Keeley and told her about it (since I told her about him earlier) and she got really pissed off. She really likes yelling at people, and I was fully ready for her to go chew this guy out. We were halfway to the theatre, along with a couple other co-workers, when we ran into Valerie. She asked what was going on and when we told her she went to go get the guy. When she came back he was just saying, "You need to do a background check on these kids! She's racist! She's got racist tendencies!" He said I was rude to him earlier when he asked for change, and said his phone was on silent in the theatre and all this bullshit. I just broke down and started crying it was upsetting me so much. Valerie was so nice, she hugged me and let me cry onto her and she went and got a napkin and wiped my face off. Apparently my masacara wasn't water proof, and it got all over my face. Turns out if I had said something earlier when he asked me for change, she could have thrown him out. Buuut I didn't. But she did let me and Ginny go see a later show at 6:30. And we got to see the whole movie, no one sitting next to us, much quiter, it was nice. Then we got out, and I found out while we were watching the movie, Keeley had got really upset about something and was sobbing and walked out and quit. Fucking hell, could this night get any worse? It was just a big bummer all around. Everyone working was just shocked at what was going on. But it's over now. And I can go to bed, sleep it off, and get up for it again tomoz.
